The equalizer coils and
armature coils are cut off at the end of the risers, blocked
and individually brazed using a hand held torch and silver
solder. The coils and commutator are electrically tested
at this stage. The armature is meggered and hi-potential
tested and then a millivolt test is performed on the commutator.
Felt is placed between each of the riser/coil connections,
which insulates one from the other and becomes a solid
mass following the VPI process. Glass banding is wrapped
around each end of the armature to securely hold the coils
down when subjected to the centrifugal forces of the rotating
armature. |
