Mining Truck Motor Services
Over the past decade or so we have become
involved with the repair and retrofitting of the
Siemens 1,500 KW and 1,250 KW AC drive motors
used in the colossal Liebherr and Euclid-Hitachi
Mining Trucks. These are the largest dump trucks
ever manufactured and are used around the world
in a variety of mining operations. Each truck
contains a diesel generator that supplies power
to a pair of electric motors (one mounted on each
rear wheel). These electric drive motors (not
a diesel engine) propel these trucks up and down
the mines in forward and reverse at varying speeds.

Because of the substantial capital investment
it takes to purchase one of these trucks,
they are expected to operate around-the-clock.
It goes without saying that these mines are
located in some of the world's harshest environments
and therefore the motors must be designed
and built to withstand these conditions. Even
though the best materials and most innovative
designs have been utilized in these motors,
eventually the environment
wins out.

These motors arrive at our facility from mines
throughout the world and we meticulously repair
them using coils, insulation and other parts
supplied to us by Siemens AG. Our training
has been alongside Siemens craftsmen in Germany
who have taught us the proven methods they
use when repairing these motors. Siemens AG
(Automation & Drives Division) has chosen
dahl-beck electric to be
their official authorized partner in the United
States for Large Drives & Traction Motors.
